The Law Department in Our Lady & St. Chad Sports College is designed to:

Enable all pupils to achieve their full potential in a safe and caring working environment.

Welcome pupils from the Wolverhampton North East Partnership.

Courses

Key Stage 5

Pupils study Law at AS & A2 level. Pupils study the AQA specification that has a strong criminal law emphasis.

The examinations are a mixture of essay questions and case studies that require students to analyse a situation and work to a solution.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Rewards

Visits are an essential part of the law course.
There are annual visits to the Houses of Parliament, the Crown Court & the local Magistrates Courts.

Guest speakers include local M.P.s, Magistrates, a local Barrister and people involved in the Criminal Justice System.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Careers

Career Opportunities in Law include:

Solicitors, Barristers, Legal Executives, Legal Secretary, Para-legal work, Career opportunities with the Crown Prosecution Service, Court Services, the Probation Service, the Police, Court Reporter, the Coroners Court.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Department History

The Department is a fairly new Department being established in 1992.
It works at the moment just at post 16, being so popular that it is now offered in two option blocks.
It teaches students from all of the partnership schools, at present there are 56 law students.
Each year students go on to study Law at university.
From the class of 2007 two students are studying Law, from 2006 there are seven!
The Law Department is developing and is looking to offer a BTEC Level 3 in Legal Studies. (This course is currently being written by the Head of Department.)
