Languages
The MFL Department at Our Lady and St Chad offers language tuition in French, German and Spanish. At KS3 all pupils study one of these languages and at KS4 many pupils opt to study two languages. Our classrooms are located in a purpose built languages block and we have one classroom equipped with computers and an interactive whiteboard. Every year we benefit from having Foreign Language Assistants who work with pupils to improve their linguistic and cultural knowledge. We have an excellent examination record. Last year 70% of students achieved A*-C in GCSE German, 79% of students achieved A*-C in GCSE Spanish, 60% of students passed AS-Level French (1 student obtained an A grade) and 100% of students passed ELC French, A-Level German and A-Level Spanish.
Policies
Homework is set every week in MFL and may take the form of research, written work, a reading exercise or learning vocabulary. As well as following the school’s rewards policy we operate a ‘Pupil of the Week’ reward system in MFL. In every class one pupil per week, who has arrived to class on time with full equipment, completed all classwork and homework, behaved sensibly and shown respect for everyone is picked to be pupil of the week and entered into a termly prize draw.
