Department of History
The history department is fortunate to be based in such an attractive and historically interesting site. The school buildings have been adapted and added to since St Chad�s College was established here in 1925. The current school was established with the amalgamation of St Chad�s College and Our Lady of Mercy Grammar school in 1978.
History is currently taught across the full age and ability range from year 7 to Year 13.History has proved a popular and successful choice for pupils at GCSE and A Level.
The department is led by Mr J. Calvert with support in lower school from three experienced associate teachers.
History offers the opportunity to all pupils to more fully understand the world in which they live and their place within that world through the study of the political, cultural and economic development of the United Kingdom.
History aims to develop the following knowledge, skills and understanding;
Chronological understanding
Knowledge and understanding of events, people and changes in the past
Historical Interpretation
Historical enquiry
Organisation and Communication
